SONiC also integrates with third-party DevOps tools that natively support Linux, such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet so that organizations can automate switch management and operations. Organizations can choose among multiple distributions of SONiC, including a stock or community version, as well as vendor-supported versions.
This version includes the core SONiC modules as well as early access to features added by Dell Technologies and other community members. All these control-plane protocols will be upstreamed to the stock version following the community roadmap. For one-off use cases, all these options are acceptable; a user or engineer can pick the one they like best and run with it.
The problem is that engineers may have to hop among different shells to configure a single switch and memorize or look up a variety of commands and syntaxes.
At Dell Technologies, we see great potential for SONiC to play an increasingly important role in many of our next-generation technology solutions, and we are actively working to increase the adoption of SONiC in the technical communities.
