I'm 46 and had a hysterectomy when I was 39 I still have my ovaries. However I did well until I turned I started having hotflashes. My doctor put me on a low dosage of estrogen and from there to a higher dosage. The problem is that I wasn't having great success plus the higher dosages has added about 15 lbs to me. I am now to start the patch on tomorrow. I hope all goes well and some the pounds also.
Again thank you guys for you help I surely needed it!! Guest over a year ago I also have been using the Estraderm patch for almost one year. I went to refill my prescripton today only to learn that it has been discontinued with no explanation. The pharmacist did say all patches have been discontinued. Is this just in Canada? I will have to speak with my doctor for a new prescription. The patch was working so well for me, too. BK in Boerne over a year ago I am post menopausal and did the whole thing without any hormones.
It was really difficult, but I was too afraid of the negatives I've been hearing regarding increased chances of cancer. You guys might want to do more research before you continue on the hormones. Menopause is natural - not fun, but natural. Replacement therapy is a misnomer because we naturally are supposed to be without them. Even the bioidentical is not safe from my understanding. Obviously it's a personal decision, but there definitely is risk in taking hormones.

Drs say I am not the normal case so take care in giving blanket medical opinion. Guest over a year ago I am 75 years old and have been on the Estraderm patch.
I had a hysterectomy in , leaving 1 ovary, I did not have any menopausal symptoms but my new doctor thought it was a good idea for me to start taking estrogen after I had a major stomach surgery, I tried taking the pill and it did not agree with me so then went on the patch, he said he wanted me to stay on it until I was at least 70 years old, after I got to be that age he said it was up to me if I wanted to continue or not, I stayed on it until 2 years ago and another new doctor wanted me to be on Evista for my osteoporosis and he said I could not use the patch while taking that.
The Evista caused me too many side effects so I stopped taking it. At that time I needed to go to my Gynocologist for a different problem and he said I should go back on the patch, as it is good for all parts of your body. I am happily back on it for a year now and nails and hair and skin are good. I want to stay on it for those reasons. Guest over a year ago In reply to Guest on - click to read. I never want to give it up, lol. I am 53 now, that makes it 17 years for me.
I also have bone density issues so my doc wants me to stay on HRT. Quick reply. Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug.

Mary Ann over a year ago I have been on Estraderm. I am 65 yrs old and they have helped me What do I do or use now I did have to go off of them for a knee replacement surgery three yrs ago and the hot flashes and everything all came back until I was able to go back on them Linda over a year ago I am 62 in Dec , holding on ,you know.
All the other patches make me sick at my stomach and I get terrible headaches. I've learned how to put them on to stay and I have a little weight gain, but I sleep well and I have a lot of energy my skin looks good and I am very regular. Had to go to Canadian pharmacy to get them filled, but the cost is less and my Dr. Also they go directly in the bloodstream and not through the stomach and liver. I really like that fact. I'll be on these as long as I can. You can get these from a Canadian pharmacy, very easy.
DClark over a year ago In reply to anonymous on - click to read. Cornelia, I have used Estraderm patches for over 15 years and have been completely satisified with them. Now my pharmacy has told me they were discontiuned.
Both Alora and Climara have been substituted for me but I am experiencing sore nipples, sweats, hot flashes, mood changes etc. I am getting desperate to find somthing as effective as the Estraderm. At least in my case I feel that after using a product that long without any side effects it must be compatible to my body.
Don't know if this helps but would love to hear any suggestions or experiences from others. Eva over a year ago I am 65 years old and I have been using the estradiol patch called Climara for many years now. It is a brand name. I get the 0. I do have to pay extra because it is a brand name. The generics burned my skin. For years I have been cutting the patch in half with clean scissors. I place it on my dry skin on my stomach and cover it with a bandaid and hold it for a few seconds to bond with my skin.
I put the other half back into the package to use the following week. I have never had any problems doing this. The monthly supply lasts me for 2 months. From what I have read, it is the synthetic and hormones made from pregnant horses that cause the serious problems with breast cancer, strokes, and blood clots.
The bio-identical hormones such as estradiol are much safer and not as harmful. My GYN still prescribes this patch to me at my age, and as far as I can foresee, I will be on it for as long as possible.
