If I go straight to the directory via Explorer not IE and just double click the file, it loads.
I first set this as the default file at the "Default Website" level, and then later at the server level. The timestamp reflects that particular attempt. Could you open IIS manager, navigate to the website's content view, then right-click and browse the file?

I believe the method of browsing a file as we did above eliminates both 1 and 2. As for 3 , I don't believe that there is anything I could have done myself; I have only created virtual directories within IIS manager, and haven't ever modified anything in the default website's root directory. Thanks for the reply, i did check your answer out, but in the end i just created a ASP Classic App and switched it to DefaultAppPool, this made it work, still no idea why it just wouldn't let me create it that way.
